Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy For adult learners undertaking MACTE recognised courses
AMTI recognises that students may come to study with knowledge, skills and abilities from many sources such as formal and informal education or work/life experiences, not simply through tertiary qualification. AMTI offers students the opportunity to apply that education or experience to the course they wish to undertake.
This policy guides AMTI in determining how prior learning is to be assessed, granted and applied.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the recognition of existing skills and knowledge, attained from previous study at educational institutions or from work and life experiences, against those skills and knowledge identified in the elements of the course they wish to study at AMTI.
All RPL must be claimed via the electronic submission of the RPL forms. It is the student’s responsibility to complete the RPL form completely and include all relevant evidence (certified if specified).
Note: This form should be signed and submitted along with any application for RPL.
Conditions for RPL
1.1 All supporting documents supplied must be true and correct (and English translations provided where applicable).
1.2 It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all necessary documentation is provided for assessment.
1.3 All RPL applications and enquiries are submitted to AMTI through the link amti.org.au/rpl.
1.4 RPL applications must be received with the course application or at least 6 weeks prior to course commencement, whichever is sooner.
1.5 When AMTI requires additional information from the student about their RPL application, that information must be returned to AMTI within 7 working days of the student receiving AMTI’s request.
1.6 Students will be notified in writing of an RPL assessment outcome within 7 days of receipt of the application.
1.7 When an RPL is granted, the student’s course duration may be reduced. If the registered provider grants the overseas or domestic student RPL that reduces the overseas student’s course length, the provider must inform the student of the reduced course duration following granting of RPL.
1.8 AMTI reserves the right to refuse any RPL application prior to course commencement.
1.9 The RPL Records and the signed acceptance will be filed in the student management system documents and held for two (2) years after the student ceases to be an enrolled AMTI student.
1.10 RPL assessments and decisions made by AMTI are final. Any disagreement with the outcome should be in line with AMTI’s Complaint and Appeal policy and procedure
1.11 The decision to assess prior learning or grant course credit must preserve the integrity of the award to which it applies and comply with requirements of the underpinning educational framework of the course.
